Posters Are Not Just for the Young

Most people associate posters with teenagers' bedrooms and with classrooms. But posters are used by plenty of style-conscious adults who want to make the most of their home or office without spending a lot of money. Because they're lightweight and inexpensive, putting up posters is simple and doesn't damage walls.

Scale Posters to the Space
Large, empty walls can accommodate multiple large posters, so don't be afraid to think big if you have a plain, boring wall that needs to be updated. Likewise, small spaces should use small posters. Even if a wall is big enough for a large poster, in smaller rooms and nooks, a few smaller posters grouped together usually looks better.

Using Posters to Open up and Redefine a Space
The right poster can totally change the look and feel of a room. In a home or apartment without a nice view, a stunning landscape poster can turn a dull, depressing space into something beautiful. Many motivational posters feature great nature photos and provide the perfect antidote to imperfect or boring surroundings. A small interior bathroom without windows becomes much more inviting with a poster of a lush, colorful garden.

Frames are Essential
Posters tacked directly to walls are for college students and teens. Even though poster frames are usually quite simple so as to let the artwork capture the attention, they are necessary to give posters a finished look. Some people purchase frames in stands and are able to use posters as casual room dividers. Fortunately, poster frames don't cost much. Plus, if you plan to change posters regularly, you can store more than one in a frame for later use.

Grouping Posters for Dramatic Effect
A group of posters can create an effect that is greater than the sum of the individual posters. Putting together a series of multiple motivational posters in a home office can offer quiet inspiration. A few beautiful recipe posters give a kitchen a finished, yet casual look. Don't be afraid to experiment with different posters and to change them out periodically. The expense is minimal, but the impact can be major.

Movie Posters are Terrific for Adding Decorative Interest

The movie poster is primarily designed, of course, to promote a movie, but these posters can also be terrific works of art in and of themselves. They can be used in your home to capture a mood or a feeling, to show appreciation for your favorite film, or to add a fun touch to casual rooms.

Family Rooms
Family rooms are the perfect place to hang posters, and posters from great movies are perfect for creating a relaxing ambience. Those with very large family rooms who want to create multiple "zones" in the room can suspend framed posters from the ceiling or use posters in stand-up frames as casual room dividers.

Children's Rooms
Children's rooms make great settings for posters from a child's favorite movie. The bright colors and crisp, clear artwork liven up the room and can be easily changed as the child grows up. They also make terrific additions to "themed" children's bedrooms, such as those with Disney themes, and those with themes from other favorite children's films.

Teens' Rooms
The teenager's bedroom and the poster have a long history together. Posters make a great way for teens to express their individuality in the décor of their rooms. They're relatively inexpensive, and when put up in lightweight poster frames, they won't damage walls. Furthermore, it's easy to change up the look of a teen's bedroom simply by changing the posters on the walls.

Adults' Rooms
The movie poster can also be a tasteful and beautiful item of décor in grown-ups' bedrooms too. What better way to remember a memorable night out at the movies than to put up a beautiful poster from that movie where it will be seen every day? Spouses can remember "their" special movie every day. And even non-movie fans can appreciate the effect of a poster from a classic like Casablanca on a retro styled bedroom.
If your home could use an update, but you don't have a lot of money to spend, consider the movie poster as a great choice for adding fun, beauty, and a unique bit of history to your interior spaces.
